GXCC MOTOKIDS ACADEMY ROUND 1


On Sunday, 15 May 2022, the 1st round of the brand new GXCC MotoKids Academy will take place.

Below are some frequently asked questions that we answer.

WHAT IS THE GXCC MOTOKIDS ACADEMY?

It is a development series supported by Motorsport South Africa (MSA) and the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) and it provides a platform where kids between the ages of 4 and 15 (girls up to 16) can take part in an event, where they can learn more about motocross and cross country racing.

WHO CAN TAKE PART IN THE GXCC MOTOKIDS ACADEMY?

The GXCC MotoKids Academy is aimed at newcomers, who have not raced motocross or cross country racing before. If your child has not raced any club or regional event before, this event is for you!

IS THE GXCC MOTOKIDS ACADEMY A RACE?

The GXCC MotoKids Academy is a race, but much less formal. The competitors will be timed by a timekeeper and results will be made available, but it is aimed more at teaching parents and competitors about timekeeping and results than about the positions of the competitors.

WHEN WILL THESE EVENTS TAKE PLACE?

There will be 4 events during the 2022 season and these events will be held on the following days:

Round 1 – Sunday, 15 May 2022
Round 2 – Sunday, 12 June 2022
Round 3 – Sunday, 4 September 2022
Round 4 – Sunday, 6 November 2022

WHERE WILL THESE EVENTS TAKE PLACE?

All 4 events will take place at Grasslands @ Hanger 47, Sesmylspruit Road, Mooiplaats (Sunderland Ridge), Centurion.

WHAT TIME WILL THE EVENTS START?

The GXCC MotoKids Academy events consist of a motocross race and a cross country race. Click on the link “View Race Regulations” to view the program of the day.

WHAT CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE GXCC MOTOKIDS ACADEMY?

The following classes will be available:

MOTOCROSS (MX) 
 MX PW50Motorcycle to be used: Yamaha PW50, Yamaha TTR50, Honda CRF50 or similar
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 4th birthday to the year of their 6th birthday (girls, to the year of their 7th birthday)
 MX PW80Motorcycle to be used: Yamaha PW80, Yamaha TTR80, Yamaha TTR110, Honda CRF80 or similar
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 7th birthday to the year of their 8th birthday (girls, to the year of their 9th birthday)
 MX Pit BikeMotorcycle to be used: any type of pit bike
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 8th birthday to the year of their 11th birthday (girls, to the year of their 12th birthday)
 MX 50ccMotorcycle to be used: The maximum permissible capacity is 50cc.
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 5th birthday to the year of their 9th birthday (girls, to the year of their 10th birthday)
 MX 65ccMotorcycle to be used: The maximum permissible capacity is 65cc 2-stroke or 85cc auto or 110cc 4-stroke. Minimum and maximum wheel size 12” rear and 14” front.
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 7th birthday to the year of their 12th birthday (girls, to the year of their 13th birthday).
 MX Jnr 85ccMotorcycle to be used: The maximum permissible capacity is 85cc 2-stroke or 125cc 4-stroke air cooled. Minimum wheel size 14” rear and 17” front. Maximum wheel size 16” rear and 19” front.
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 8th birthday to the year of their 13th birthday (girls, to the year of their 14th birthday)
 MX Snr 85ccMotorcycle to be used: The maximum permissible capacity is 85cc 2-stroke or 150cc 4-stroke. Minimum wheel size 14” rear and 17” front. Maximum wheel size 16” rear and 19” front.
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 13th birthday to the year of their 15th birthday (girls, to the year of their 16th birthday)
CROSS COUNTRY (CC) 
 CC PW50Motorcycle to be used: Yamaha PW50, Yamaha TTR50, Honda CRF50 or similar
Age of competitors: Open to competitors from the year of their 4th birthday to the year of their 6th birthday (girls, to the year of their 7th birthday)
 CC PW80Motorcycle to be used: Yamaha PW80, Yamaha TTR80, Yamaha TTR110, Honda CRF80 or similar

HOW MUCH ARE THE ENTRY FEES?

A competitor can either take part in the motocross event only (1 or 2 classes) or the cross country event only (1 class) or both. The entry fees will be as follows:

MX ONLY:
1 Class – R300
2 Classes – R450

CROSS COUNTRY ONLY:
1 Class – R300

DUAL ENTRY:
MX (2 Classes) & Cross Country (1 Class) – R500

DOES A COMPETITOR NEED A LICENSE FROM A FEDERATION TO TAKE PART?

GXCC is affiliated to Motorsport South Africa (MSA), who is in turn affiliated to FIM, and all GXCC events are held under the rules and regulations of MSA. Therefore, each competitor will need to take out a MotoKids license from MSA and submit it to the club with their entry. A MotoKids license can be purchased online and will cost R135.

WHAT WILL A COMPETITOR’S RACE NUMBER BE?

In order to avoid any duplicate numbers on the field, it is advisable to obtain a racing number from MSA. Please click on “Get a Race Number” below to obtain a race number.

WILL THERE BE TROPHIES & MEDALS?

The first 3 competitors in each class and each discipline will receive a small trophy and all other competitors, no matter whether they have finished their races or not, will receive participation medals.
