KENYA: IFRD

Kenyan women bikers joined other women around the world in celebrating the International Female Ride Day (IFRD) on 1st May. There has been a significant rise in the number of ladies taking on riding and this day just goes to celebrate them and all those that aspire riding.

In recognition of our carbon footprint as riders, we partnered with @mitialliance to plant trees across the city. We marked the day by riding on some scenic routes and ended our rides at different tree planting sites- Olepolos, Karura and the Ngong Forest, Bomas area. All together we successfully planted 450 trees at Ngong Forest (BOMAS) and Karura and over 12,000 seedballs at Olepolos, Kajiado county.

As bikers, we not only ride for fun but also ride for other causes that we believe in. We have a running campaign on Road Safety and we take that with us every chance we get to ride together. We have been moving the campaign #ShareTheRoad across the country in an effort to lower road carnage on our roads. We are most vulnerable and we must take action to ensure that we do not become statistics.

Like the popular truly saying goes, “It’s not what you ride, it’s that you ride.” We hope that we inspire more and more women to ride. Get trained, grab a bike and #JustRide!!
