A Heroic Entry Into European Markets
Hero MotoCorp, a prominent player in the Indian motorcycle market, is set to make a significant move into Europe in 2024, marking its entry into a mature market. The company plans to initiate this expansion with the introduction of its Vida V1 electric scooter, recently launched in India. With electric vehicles gaining momentum, the Vida V1 is expected to appeal to European consumers with its performance and premium features.

Export of the Vida e-scooter is anticipated to commence in the first half of 2023, potentially making Hero the first Indian EV manufacturer to reach foreign markets. Hero MotoCorp is also actively developing a range of 300cc-plus models, catering to advanced markets like Europe.
Hero MotoCorp’s Chairman and CEO, Dr. Pawan Munjal, highlighted the growing international interest, with inquiries pouring in from manufacturing facilities in Colombia and Bangladesh. The company has partnered with established distributors, such as MotoGB, to facilitate its expansion into Europe.

Niranjan Gupta, Hero CEO, emphasized the strategic approach, stating, “We already have the manufacturing base. We have volume. We have distributors in Europe and there is a gap in customer needs.” Gupta also highlighted the potential for experimentation with innovative features in developed markets like Europe and the UK.
In the initial phase of its European foray, Hero MotoCorp plans to launch products in Italy, Spain, and France, followed by the UK and Germany in subsequent phases. The company aims to introduce its serial-hybrid scooter, ‘Leap,’ in these markets before expanding its portfolio to include more models, encompassing both scooters and motorcycles.
The company showcased its ambitions and upcoming models at the EICMA motorcycle trade fair in Milan, unveiling six new vehicles. Among the highlights were the Xoom 125R, featuring enhanced stability and aerodynamics, and the Xoom 160, a maxi-style scooter with a 156cc liquid-cooled engine.
Hero MotoCorp also presented concept vehicles like the 2.5R XTunt, a stunt bike promising an exhilarating riding experience, and the Concept Lynx, an off-road-centric electric motorcycle designed for superior ride and handling characteristics. The Vida V1 Coupe, a variant of the Vida V1 electric scooter, further expanded Hero MotoCorp’s commitment to electric mobility.

The company’s entry into the European market is part of a broader strategy to enhance its global footprint, diversify its product offerings, and embrace the evolving landscape of electric mobility. As Hero MotoCorp gears up for its European venture, the company aims to position itself as a global leader in the motorcycle industry, contributing to the growth of electric vehicles in the international market.
