The Event Had Only One Rule: There Were No Rules

The Stofskop event, powered by Motul, made a highly anticipated return to the Randfontein Oval Raceway on August 12. Enthusiastic fans eagerly awaited the emergence of a novel class that showcased some of South Africa’s most accomplished motorcycle competitors. However, this time, the competitors would navigate the track on an entirely unconventional set of wheels – delivery bikes.

Dubbed the “Delivery Bike Dash in the Dust,” this extraordinary class aimed to settle a long-standing debate among motorsports enthusiasts across the nation: Who is the fastest rider? Although the outcome may not have been definitively conclusive, the event was primed to deliver the exhilaration, excitement, and spills that only Stofskop could provide.

The event’s lineup boasted a collection of legendary figures, collectively holding an impressive tally of 37 national titles. These motorcycle superstars were set to captivate the audience with their extraordinary skills and daring maneuvers:

Clinton Seller, a 9-time SA Road Racing Champion

Ross Branch, renowned as a contender in the FIM Cross Country Championship, a Dakar Rally legend, and a 3-time National Title Holder

Brian Capper, an 11-time National Title Holder, celebrated for his expertise in Trials, Stunt, Supermotard, and Enduro disciplines

Darryl Curtis, a Dakar Rally legend, securing 7 National Championships and clinching the triple Roof of Africa title

Hippocrates ‘Taki’ Bogiages, a champion in Enduro and Off-Road disciplines, also serving as Motul’s Technical Manager

Louwrens Mahoney, a triple Roof of Africa victor and a 7-time National Off-Road Title Winner

The magnitude of the event’s lineup was unprecedented in the history of South African motorcycle competitions. The audience was poised to witness a display of exceptional talent as these luminaries battled it out on the unique stage of Stofskop.

Organized by Chris Shelvey, the chief organizer of Stofskop, the event had only one rule: there were no rules. To level the playing field and enhance the intrigue, these champions would swap their usual high-performance motorcycles for delivery bikes, complete with cargo boxes. This departure from convention promised to add an extra layer of excitement to the already exhilarating event.

The “Delivery Bike Dash in the Dust” featured a distinct format: a standalone class with each ride encompassing four laps. Throughout the day, multiple rides were scheduled, giving the audience ample opportunities to witness the thrilling action. Honda SA generously provided the delivery bikes, predominantly featuring the Honda Ace 125 model. Ross Branch, however, opted for a Hero Eco bike, provided by his Dakar Rally partner.

As the event unfolded, spectators were treated to a spectacle of sounds and sights, from the revving of engines to the cheering of the crowd. The event embodied the vibrant spirit of Stofskop – an event that celebrated the unconventional and humorous facets of motorcycle culture.

Stofskop was not just a race; it was an extraordinary day of camaraderie, innovation, and entertainment. The event championed diversity and inclusivity, inviting participants and spectators alike to revel in the uniqueness that Stofskop epitomized.
